Barbara Haupt is the President of MiniMatters. She is a certified video producer, editor, and technician, and has created and managed numerous Web sites (including this one). She is also a public policy professional with experience in community and urban development; smart growth and affordable housing; green building and LEED Certification; children and youth policy; and international development.
The thread of Barbara's career has been to use informed, analytic thought to create positive change in the public arena. MiniMatters builds on Barbara's years of policy experience -- combined with creativity and video expertise -- to help organizations, governments, causes, and businesses tell their stories and drive their audiences to action.
Most recently, Barbara has been engaged with urban development projects that feature green building, affordable housing, mixed-use development, and connections to transit. In 2009, Barbara became a LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP), an official accreditation from the U.S. Green Building Council. As a LEED AP, Barbara is qualified to serve as the primary "green" professional on commercial and residential real estate development projects.
Barbara has been an independent consultant to housing developers; consulting firms engaged in federal housing, transportation, and environmental policy; and the State of Maryland. Prior to becoming a consultant, Barbara served in the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development, where she helped craft and implement Maryland’s landmark Smart Growth Law. Early in her career, Barbara was an economist with the U.S. Agency for International Development in Quito, Ecuador, and worked for The Urban Institute.
From 2002-2007, Barbara served on the Montgomery County Commission for Children and Youth and wrote the Commission’s 2006 Report titled Fostering Participation by Low-Income Middle School Students in High Quality Out-of-School Time Programs. She also co-authored the report "Adolescent Health in Maryland." In addition, Barbara has created numerous interactive workshops for children ages 4-12.
Barbara holds a Master in Public Policy degree from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, and is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate in economics, with honors in humanities, from the University of California at Irvine. She was also a Rotary Foundation Scholar at the University of Exeter, England. She speaks and reads Spanish.
